In the process of doing two peer reviews for English 110, I realized how different it was from the paper editing that I did in previous years. It was a fun task for me to do this peer review because I got to expand my knowledge of my classmates and learn what their experiences as students have been like, seeing if they were similar to mine at all. I liked how we had quite a bit of freedom about what we could comment, yet it still had to be polite. This is different from how I edited in the past, because in the past, I would try to focus on the grammatical errors more than anything, whereas in this, I focused more on what they could add to keep readers more engaged, as well as how they could connect their piece to the other reading we have done in class. Another reason why I liked this peer review so much was because of the comments that were left on my paper. The comments that I found very helpful were the ones that either gave me the suggestion to try and add more details, or to try and add more imagery. I found these very helpful, because they are the type of comments that made me realize that I could improve my paper. I don’t feel as though I could have detected these flaws by myself and it was nice to have a couple more sets of eyes to help out.
