April 27, 2018 by mtoman 1 Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkliXWaATI8   For my Big Data Digital Presentation, I used iMovie, which is the same software that I used for my first digital presentation. I chose to use the same software as before because it was familiar to me, plus, I really liked how my first presentation came out so I figured that since I … [Read more…]

Working Thesis Statement

April 6, 2018 by mtoman 1 Comment

Though many see downfalls to it, Big Data can be very beneficial to the medical field and a number of healthcare professions, especially nursing. MLA Citation – Source 1

April 4, 2018 by mtoman Leave a Comment

Garcia, Amy L. “How big data can improve health care.” American Nurse Today. 10. 7. (July 2015): 53-55. This article is about the usage of big data in the medical field, but specifically nursing. March 28, 2018 by mtoman Leave a Comment

When looking through some of the possible resources for the Big Data project, I came across a few that I feel I might use. One of the sources that I really enjoyed watching was Anne Milgram’s TED talk about improving criminal justice systems. This was interesting to me first of all because my dad is … [Read more…]

The TED Talk, “Future Without Secrets,” given by Alessandro Acquisti, is focused largely on the idea of what people call, Big Data, and the thought that it is a relatively positive thing. Dear Diary, Today is a Saturday, which means I’m going to be used a lot more throughout the day today than what I am during weekdays. No class for Mary means more attention for me! I love Saturdays because we always start the day by checking out what snapchats we received the night before while … [Read more…]

Response to Greenfield

March 5, 2018 by mtoman Leave a Comment

I agree with Greenfield’s claim about how teens are beginning to become overly concerned with their social lives, and as a result, defining their success in life by the amount of friends they have on Facebook, or followers they have on Instagram. My experiences with my friends and sister strongly support this claim, as I … [Read more…]

“Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?” – Response

February 28, 2018 by mtoman 1 Comment

I really enjoyed reading this article by Jean Twenge. It was extremely interesting to me because she is talking about my generation, and I could relate to a lot of the points that she was bringing up. One of the claims Twenge made was that smartphones and what they bring, such as social media, are … [Read more…]

Boyd Chapter One Key Quotes

February 24, 2018 by mtoman Leave a Comment

“Anyone in limelight must regularly navigate disconnected social contexts simultaneously, balancing what they say with how their diverse audiences might interpret their actions.” (31)   “When teens face a collapsing context in physical environments, their natural response is to become quiet… sudden appearance of someone with social authority changes the context entirely.” (33)   “I … [Read more…]

R.I.P to 11 year old Mary Toman, who lied about her birth year in order to legally be able to have a Facebook account. Thank you for all the good times. Your “Like this for a truth is and rate!” statuses will be greatly missed by many.
